Ayahuasca- Vine of the Sould
Shamanism is the oldest spiritual healing tradition still in general use today. The shamanic practice is more a set of local activities, perspectives and worldviews then it is a formal institution and ideology. A key element of ‘shamanism’ is the belief that everything has a spirit or life essence, from the plants and the trees to the wind, the rivers and the mountains. In the shamanistic worldview there is a continuous interaction between different dimensions, forces and entities of the cosmos. This complex reality is organized in a world tree or mountain with many levels. The shaman masters the technique to travel through these levels and act as a mediator in order to bring good fortune and healing to his people.
This technique is established through a controlled form of trance or ecstasy, induced by fasting, continuous dancing, singing and drumming or the ingestion of certain psycho-active medicinal plants. A shaman will often have an ancestor spirit or animal spirit to guide him through the astral realms and assist in his work.
Ayahusca is considered by many of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon to be the Mother of All Medicines. The vine or liana (Banisteriopsis caapi) contains the alkaloid ‘harmaline’ and is mostly called Ayahuasca, although the vine is only 1 of the ingredients that make up the brew called Ayahuasca. The second plant that is used is Chagrupanga (Diplopteris cabrerana) as the DMT (dimethyltryptamine) containing and vision inducing ingredient. Many other curanderos use Chacruna (Psychotria Viridris) as the second and DMT containing plant. If DMT brings us the visions, then why should we add the vine that in itself barely gives us any noticeable effects? Because the harmaline containing vine is an MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitor and reduces the body’s production and distribution of MAO that normally breaks down the vision-inducing ingredient DMT before it can cross the blood brain barrier into the central nervous system. Only with this combination of ingredients can the drink have its consciousness-expending effects and trigger visions.
Ayahuasca ceremonies begin in the evening and usually last anywhere from 4 to 6 hours. The Shaman blesses the unique tasting liquid and then pours a certain amount for each participant. After the participants are blessed and cleansed with tobacco smoke, Shaman begins to whistle, rattle and sing the plant and animals songs (ikaros), inviting the spirits to protect and guide you in your journey. Assistants are always available to assist the guests throughout the ceremony and insure their comfort and safety.Besides a great variety of diseases and illnesses that Fly Catcher has treated successfully, the Shaman is extremely knowledgeable in the field of addictions. Alcoholism and substance abuse affects all levels of society and is a growing problem worldwide. Only if this disease is taken care of at its very source, will a treatment be effectively. Since Ayahuasca communicates at the deepest levels of the soul, purifies and aligns our many bodies, thus opening the heart, treatments have been very successfully. So far people have successfully received treatment for gastritis, arthritis, asthma, psoriasis and certain forms of cancer, to name just a few.
